Anuhea

This episode features Hawaiian singer/songwriter Anuhea Jenkins. Growing up on the island of Maui, she was actually immersed in sports more than music, and it wasn’t until middle school that she found her passion for performing arts. As a young adult she moved to the big city, San Francisco, where her life was filled with open mics, attending live music concerts, gathering inspiration, and writing a ton of songs. She acted as her own manager, promoter and booking agent, burning CDs on her home computer filled with songs that she created herself with “Garage Band” and at public radio stations. Soon her career as a singer songwriter gained some traction.

Encouraged by her success thus far, she moved on to Los Angeles where with the help of producer Drew K, she honed her skills, gathered her thoughts, and found her voice as a professional singer and songwriter. Her first album “Anuhea” came out in 2009 with considerable success. The album charted on the Billboard Hot 100 charts, as well as in the top 10 on the iTunes Pop charts, and won Anuhea two prestigious Na Hoku Hanohano Awards. That album was featured in Honolulu Magazine’s 25 Greatest Hawaii Albums of the New Century. Since then she has released a total of six albums.

Over the years, Anuhea has since toured extensively across the world, sharing the stage with top performers like Bruno Mars, Jack Johnson, Ziggy Marley, Babyface and Sugar Ray.

We recorded Anuhea at the Southeast Alaska State Fair in July 2018.  We thank the Southeast Alaska State Fair in Haines for organizing this weekend of great entertainment, and another big thank you to sound engineer John Herchenrider from Sitka, Alaska, for the excellent venue sound and for recording this performance.
