Scott Maynard’s Jennihouse

Scott Maynard and Sam Gallagher

This episode features some obscure but wonderful music from multi instrumentalist and master of improvisational ambient jazz, Scott Maynard. Scott grew up in London, England, but moved to Toronto as a teenager, and lived there for the next 25 years, playing in bands, singing in choirs, working in theatre. In 2013 he moved to the Yukon filling his time with music performances, theatre, composition, teaching, and recording.

In his performances he improvises soundscapes for videos in front of a live audience. Tunes often begin from a simple idea with plenty of room to grow, morphing into more complex textures.

We are presenting two live performances by Jennihouse (as a duo and sextet) which were recorded at the Old Firehall in Whitehorse, Yukon, 2017 and 2018.

The Jennihouse Sextet are: Leader Scott Maynard on guitar and organ, Sam Gallagher – lap steel guitar; Leith Hill – saxophone; Andrea McColeman – piano and keyboard; Lonnie Powell – drums and percussion; and Paul Bergman on upright bass.
