This episode of JAM Live! features Greenland’s Nive Nielsen and Toronto’s Patrick Brealey.
Nive Nielsen
Nive Nielsen has described her style as Eskimo Folk, captures a unique innocence while singing about coffee, beetles, ghosts, snow and being bad in her warm and genuine style. Nive’s bio to date reads like a storybook. She is Inuk and was born and raised in Nuuk, the capital of Greenland. Her first show ever was a televised concert for the Queen of Denmark.
Junction Arts & Music was fortunate enough to host the lovely Nive Nielsen. Nive (lead vox and on ukulele and acoustic guitar) and her partner Cowboy Jan de Vroede (playing electric guitar, keyboard and glockenspiel) craft a magical sound with the help of her Yukon friends; Diyet (back-up vocals), Robert van Lieshout (on drums and acoustic guitar), Bob Hamilton (on electric guitar and mandolin), and Sarah Hamilton on (violin and viola).
Recorded at the St. Elias Centre in Haines Junction, Yukon, in February 2013
Patrick Brealey
Toronto musician Patrick Brealey blends elements of folk, country, cabaret and blues to deliver lyrically driven songs with a uniquely powerful voice. Brealey’s music draws inspiration from artists such as Roy Orbison, Lyle Lovett and Willie Nelson. In the past few years Patrick has received national radio play, performed at the Mariposa and Eaglewood Folk Festivals; toured coast to coast in Canada and performed in the United States. He has shared the stage with Jim Cuddy, Serena Ryder, the Good Lovelies and others.
His ability to engage an audience is a signature of Brealey’s live shows. Whether it’s through his clever song writing, quick sense of humour or soul-baring voice, he captivates crowds and moves them to laugh, cry and to join in.
Patrick (lead vocals and guitar) is joined by Rob Fenton on the dobro and back up vocals.
This show was recorded on April 14th, 2013.
