Sarah MacDougall & Steve Slade
This episode features two solo performances by Whitehorse musicians – Sarah MacDougall followed by Steve Slade.
Sarah MacDougall
Originally from Malmoe, Sweden, Sarah MacDougall called Vancouver her home for many years but relocated to Whitehorse to balance her very demanding way of life touring internationally. “The Yukon provides a bit of a break,” she said. “Some peace, quietness, and nature.” Despite her intense touring schedule, Sarah always manages time to perform at the Village Bakery in Haines Junction, Yukon.
Sarah’s unique style of music can be described as a fusion of traditional folk with sounds that could mimic “Kate Bush” or “The Postal service.”
She has twice won the “Western Canadian Music Award” for “Roots Solo Album of the Year” (in 2012 and again 2015). Sarah has released three albums.

Steve Slade
In the late 1970’s, Steve hitchhiked up the Alaska Highway with a backpack, a guitar, and a dog. So for more than 35 years, he has called the Yukon his home.
Steve’s winters are spent teaching and writing music with students in northern rural schools. Spring and fall seasons are his preferred times for touring in Canada. He has performed for princes and premiers, daycares and nightclubs. His prodigious repertoire and intelligent, yet affecting, original songs seem to strike a universal chord.
