This episode features a live performance by the Winnipeg folk/roots/Americana powerhouse duo “The Small Glories”. Members Cara Luft & JD Edwards met when they were thrown together purely by accident for an anniversary show at Winnipeg’s venerable West End Cultural Centre.

Cara grew up in Calgary, raised in a musical family and singing and playing a variety of acoustic instruments. She’s previously released three solo records, and one as a founding member of “The Wailin’ Jennys”.

JD was born in Oshawa and established himself in Winnipeg as the lead singer of the JD Edwards Band, showcasing a wide variety of influences on the gospel-soul-folk-rock spectrum, branded by his gritty vocals.

The two reinforce each others’ many strengths yet allow their distinct personalities to shine through. Cara’s folkie style contrasts JD’s rock like performance, the two together meld into one powerful musical entity.

The duo has been busy touring across the US, Europe and Australia. They released their highly anticipated sophomore album “Assiniboine & the Red” in June 2019, just a view weeks after we recorded their live performance at the Kluane Mountain Bluegrass festival in Haines Junction, Yukon.
