Ryan, originally from rural Quebec, but now living in Whitehorse, Yukon, has been interested in the sounds and history of “old time music” since he discovered his grandfather’s vast collection of 78 rpm. jazz and blues records. He was a ten year old boy when he picked up his first guitar. As a teen, like many country blues stars before him, he refined his finger style blues by listening to musicians he heard in local cafes. Nowadays he is a talented multi instrumentalist playing harmonica, mandolin, banjo and violin as well as guitar, and, of course, sings.

We recorded Ryan and his band at the 2019 Kluane Mountain Bluegrass Festival in Haines Junction, Yukon, where he was joined on stage by his fellow “Messarounders”; – Patrick Hamilton (drums, acoustic guitar, vocals), Olivier de Colombel (sax) and Marc Lindy, from Vancouver, on tuba.
